Ventura lawyer finds victories with legal community

After being raised in Ventura since the age of 5, Sasha Collins made sure she returned after leaving briefly to attend Cal State Fullerton and UC Santa Barbara, where she received her bachelor’s degree in history.

After graduation, Collins continued her education as a student at the Santa Barbara & Ventura Colleges of Law and is now a partner at the law firm of Myers, Widders, Gibson, Jones & Feingold. Living and working in Ventura gives her the chance to practice law with past classmates and professors.

“Recently, just last week, I was arguing a case where I was on one side, my friend from law school represented the other side, and our joint professor was representing a third party,” she said. “It’s a nice, close-knit legal community.”

When she’s not busy practicing law, Collins can be found either spending time with her 2-year-old and 4-year-old children or hiking at Harmon Canyon in the Ventura foothills. She recently celebrated her 8th wedding anniversary with her husband, who was a high school classmate.

Collins has served on the board of the Ventura Country Bar Association and was a part of the 805 Women’s networking group. Currently, she is active on the Board of Women Lawyers of Ventura County and is its past president.

• What’s your guilty pleasure food? Crispy chicken sandwich with Buffalo hot sauce.

• What music is on your playlist lately? I actually recently went on a throwback kick, and have been listening to Patti Smith and Eric Clapton, but my all-time favorite group is Florence and the Machine.
