Gold Coast Health Plan appointed Dr. Felix Nuñez as its new Chief Medical Officer (CMO). Dr. Nuñez is a board-certified family physician and health care leader with more than 25 years of leadership in managed care and health care delivery. A proud native Angeleno and first-generation Latino, Dr. Nuñez was raised in a Mexican-American Los Angeles neighborhood where there was a lack of Latinx doctors. He understands the benefits of when medical professionals represent the communities they serve.
Dr. Nuñez is passionate about improving health care access and quality of care for underserved populations. As CMO, Dr. Nuñez will advance Ventura County’s community health model of care by considering how family, neighborhoods, and lifestyle impact the health and well-being of the community. His work will focus on serving more than 250,000 Ventura County Medi-Cal beneficiaries who are members of Gold Coast Health Plan.
Dr. Nuñez joined GCHP in 2022 as associate CMO. Prior to GCHP, he served as Inland Empire Regional Medical Director at Molina Healthcare California. He also served as the CMO and interim CEO of Family Health Care Centers of Greater Los Angeles.
Dr. Nuñez received a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Loyola Marymount University, a Doctor of Medicine degree from Harvard Medical School, and Master of Public Health from the UCLA School of Public Health. He serves on several boards, including the Latinx Physicians of California and the Association of Clinicians for the Underserved, where he previously served as president.
