The Business Times and the Los Angeles District Office of the U.S. Small Business Administration conceived the Spirit of Small Business to recognize the accomplishments of small businesses in the Tri-Counties. This special report includes feature articles profiling our small business award winners, a variety of small-business “how-to” articles, and an extensive small-business resource guide.
This year’s categories are:
Pioneer Spirit Award: An established company that got its start with an SBIR grant or early stage loan or investment from an SBA program.
All In the Family Award: A family business that’s survived multiple generations.
Community Spirit Award: A small business that has partnered with one of our military bases or another government/education institution to advance entrepreneurship.
Small Business Advocate: A person or organization that’s advocated successfully for small businesses in the region.
Look Back Award: Spotlighting a past winner that’s achieved a significant milestone.
Green Business Award: An innovative small business in the environment/sustainability area.
Never say Never award: For a small business that’s successfully overcome obstacles.
Veteran Business Award: Recognizing a veteran-owned business
Think Global Award: For an exporter or international venture.
Entries will also be judged based upon the nominee’s record of success and community commitment, in addition to meeting the basic requirements of being Tri-County-based and having 100 or fewer employees. Past Spirit of Small Business winners are ineligible.
