From his computer in Santa Barbara, Ed Richards can find out how hard a single air conditioner works at data center in Washington state and how humid the air is inside a Walgreen’s store in Austin, Texas.

He sees it in real time, updated every few seconds.

“Not many people in that store,” Richards says of the Walgreen’s. He’s noticed a low concentration of carbon dioxide in the building, signaling few breaths exhaled.
