Nava goes after Greka

IN THIS ARTICLE

Assemblymember Pedro Nava announced that his legislation to protect the environment and go after the most egregious polluters in California is now in effect.

A press release from his department named Greka Energy as “California’s worst oil polluter” and said the Department of Conservation and the Department of Fish and Game are working to implement the new laws.

“State law enforcement officials and state agencies now have the necessary tools to pursue serial spillers and prevent rogue companies such as Greka Energy from polluting, and if they do, hold them accountable,” Nava said in the release.

The new laws were in response to a series of on-shore oil spills in Santa Barbara County where more than 600,000 gallons of crude oil and processed water have been spilled during the last six years. Since December 2007, Greka has spilled more than 320,000 gallons.
