Online software training firm Lynda.com purchased 57,474 square feet in Carpinteria on Aug. 31, continuing its expansion and move into the South Coast.
The company, the fifth fastest-growing firm in the region according to a recent Business Times survey, bought a 31,553-square-foot office building and 25,921-square-foot warehouse building at 6410 Cindy Lane in Carpinteria.
The price was not disclosed, but the property listed for $6 million. According to Hayes Commercial Group, the brokerage firm representing Lynda.com, the deal is one of the top 10 commercial property sales on the South Coast this year, in dollar value.
Lynda.com started moving its headquarters from Ventura last year, leasing almost 60,000 square feet of office and R&D space in Carpinteria. Hayes said the company has added 73 jobs since April of last year and is one of only 22 companies that occupies more than 50,000 square feet of office space on the South Coast.
“Creating a consolidated Lynda.com campus with expanded, customized workspace literally allows us to have more room for creating an even more constructive educational experience for our members,” Lynda Weinman, co-founder of Lynda.com, said in a release.
The company purchased the Cindy Lane property from the Salvation Army, which has owned the site since 1987. The Salvation Army had adapted the office building for use as a rehabilitation facility, while using the warehouse building for donation processing. The organization closed the rehab facility and scaled back its use of the warehouse before eventually putting the property on the market last year.
“Acquisition of the property enables Lynda.com to better plan their current growth and future expansion needs while securing their future real estate needs in Carpinteria,” Hayes broker Christos Celmayster, who has worked with the firm to make the move to South Coast, said in a news release.
