Ed Summers, a former Ventura City Council member, has been named to lead the Ventura Chamber of Commerce.

Summers will begin work for the chamber on Nov. 7. He is the second new CEO to lead the chamber in a little more than two years, after longtime CEO Zoe Taylor stepped down in 2009.

“The chamber received over 30 candidates for this position, and the field was incredibly competitive,” Marni Brook, chair of the chamber’s board, said in a letter to chamber members.

The Ventura chamber has 900 members and is the sixth-largest in the Tri-Counties. Summers has served in executive positions with Affinity Bank and Ojai Community Bank and was a board member with the Ventura County Economic Development Association, the Economic Development Collaborative-Ventura County, the Ventura Visitors and Convention Bureau and the Claremont Chamber of Commerce.

Summers was also a City Council member in Ventura from 2005 to 2009. He lives in Ventura and is also the president-elect of the Ventura Boys and Girls Club.
