Passenger travel up 20 percent at Santa Barbara airport

IN THIS ARTICLE

The Santa Barbara Municipal Airport has had a 20 percent increase in passenger travel for the Fourth of July holiday, the airport announced on July 3, encouraging passengers to plan ahead.

As of  May 22, the airport re-opened its long-term parking lot on Hollister Avenue and Lopez Road (just west of the intersection of Fairview Avenue and Hollister Avenue). If terminal parking is full, passengers will be directed to the Hollister lot and shuttled to the airport.

Shuttles depart every 15 minutes with a 4-minute ride to the terminal. The Hollister lot can be accessed with a credit card, with payment taken with the same card upon exit. Rates are $10 per day, which is $3 less than terminal parking.

The TSA pre-check mobile RV has been temporarily stationed outside the airport, allowing passengers to register as pre-check travelers. This designation expedites the screening process for identified low-risk air travelers.

Since the service was made available on June 24-28 and July 1-3 this year, more than 700 regional travelers have registered, the airport reported.
