The Ventura County Board of Supervisors on July 11 awarded waste hauler Athens Services a service contract for a large unincorporated area of the county.

Starting Jan. 1, 2024, Athens will serve about 6,700 residential customers in Oak Park and other communities outside the cities of Moorpark, Simi Valley and Thousand Oaks.

The agreement is for 10 years, with two five-year extensions.

“We are excited to expand our partnership with Ventura County and introduce even more households and communities to the Athens Way – our commitment to excellent service, a stellar team, and a safe and healthy environment,” Athens Executive Vice President Cesar Torres said in a press release.

The new contract expands Athens’ operations in Ventura County

It has been serving Santa Paula since 2017, and last year, it replaced Thousand Oaks’ two longtime waste haulers, Waste Management and E.J. Harrison & Sons.

Houston-based Waste Management filed suit over the deal.

Athens is based in the City of Industry in Los Angeles County.
