Gold Coast Health Plan Appoints New COO

Gold Coast Health Plan, which administers Medi-Cal in Ventura County, has a new COO, it announced Oct. 30.
Suma Simcoe was appointed to the position effective Oct. 15.
She brings to Camarillo-based Gold Coast nearly 25 years of leadership experience in health care operations and system implementation.
It includes tenures as deputy COO at L.A. Care Health Plan and a senior role at multi-state Molina Healthcare.
“Suma brings a wealth of operational expertise, deep understanding of managed care, and a proven record of turning complex challenges into sustainable results,” Dr. Felix Nuñez, Gold Coast’s CEO, said in a press release.
“Her leadership will help strengthen our infrastructure and ensure we continue to deliver high-quality, member-centered care for Ventura County,” he said. “We are thrilled to welcome her to the team.”
Gold Coast administers Medi-Cal, the health insurance program for low-income people, in Ventura County.
Simcoe said she’s honored to be named Gold Coast’s new COO and “to contribute to the important work of connecting members with high quality care and services.
“I look forward to working alongside the team to build on the impact they have made thus far through operational excellence and innovation,” she said.
Simcoe’s expertise spans all aspects of managed care operations, including enrollment, claims, provider relations, grievances and appeals, payment integrity, credentialing, and vendor management, according to Gold Coast.
Nuñez, who has been with Gold Coast since 2022, was named CEO in April.
