Street smarts: CalPrivate Bank opens its doors to the Santa Barbara community

CalPrivate Bank tapped a blend of capital and classic cars when it cut the ribbon when market president George Leis cut the ribbon on its first Central Coast Branch in Montecito’s Upper Village. 

The Nov. 5 program tapped Milpas Motors for a seaplane/roadster conversion, a 1967 Porsche 911T, an E-Type Jag and a vintage Volvo P 1800.  

Among the humans: Bank CEO Rick Sowers, Hall of Fame honoree and bank director Angel Martinez, Chief Banking Officer Paul Azzi, Chief of Staff Nancy Vrankovic, Chamber Chair Randy Berg, Michele Schneider, Mary Ellen Tiffany, Frank Tabar, Peter Madlem and Laurie Leis.

The full-service office, located at 1482 East Valley Road in Montecito, is designed to provide state-of-the-art banking conveniences with a welcoming Central Coast atmosphere. It offers comprehensive banking solutions, including personal and business banking, nonprofit banking, small business lending, and more.

BIG RAISE

San Luis Obispo-based Must! Charities hosted an event at Vina Robles’ New Tasting Room and brought together local nonprofits, business leaders, and community members for an evening that blended passion, purpose, and generosity — and the result was remarkable. The inaugural event, The Pitch, sparked more than applause; it ignited a Give Where You Live movement that inspired over $150,000 in collective giving to support local nonprofits across San Luis Obispo County.

THEATER TIME

Ensemble Theatre Company of Santa Barbara, Santa Barbara’s only professional theatre company and a member of the League of Resident Theatres, continues its 47th season, “Truth and Illusion” with the West Coast premiere of The Complete Works of Jane Austen, Abridged, beginning on Dec. 3.

TURKEY DAY CAMP

The Lompoc Parks & Recreation Division announced that registration for Thanksgiving Break Day Camp is now available and will be held at the Anderson Recreation Center from 12:30 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. and is open to children 6 – 12 years old. The Atascadero Chamber of Commerce is now accepting nominations for our four annual awards: Citizen of the Year, Business of the Year, Community Organization of the Year, and Hispanic Business of the Year. Award recipients will be honored at the 103rd Anniversary Annual Awards Dinner & Gala on March 28 at Rava Wines. Nominations may be submitted online at atascaderochamber.org through Jan. 4.

HUGE HONOR

Martin Erickson, executive director of the Ventura County Transportation Commission, has been named Transit Professional of the Year by the California Transit Association’s Small Operators Committee. The committee presented the award to Erickson on Nov. 5, during the association’s 60th annual Fall Conference & Expo in Long Beach. CTA is an advocacy organization for public transit, with more than 200 member organizations across the state, including VCTC. Congrats!

LIGHT EXCHANGE PROGRAM

The city of Lompoc is offering an LED Holiday light exchange program to the local community, allowing residents and business owners to light up the city with a festive but energy-conscious glow this holiday season. Lights can be exchanged at Lompoc City Hall Monday through Friday. Members of the public with questions on the program may call the City of Lompoc Utility Conservation Division at (805) 875-8252.

NEW FIRE CHIEF: Garrett Huff has been selected to be the next Fire Chief for Santa Barbara County.  The Board of Supervisors is scheduled to ratify the appointment at the Nov. 18 Board of Supervisors meeting. Huff is currently the Deputy Chief of the Santa Barbara County Fire Department. His first day will be Dec. 8. He will assume the duties from Chief Mark Hartwig, who is retiring on Dec. 7 after six years as the Santa Barbara County Fire Chief.
