San Luis Obispo County’s Department of Airports has a new deputy director of operations and maintenance.

Tim O’Keeffe assumed the role effective Nov. 23.

He succeeds longtime Deputy Director Craig Piper who is retiring after a 25-year career with the department.

“Tim brings the right blend of experience, leadership, and character to this critical role,” Airports Director Courtney Johnson said in a Nov. 24 press release announcing O’Keeffe’s appointment

“His dedication to fostering strong teams, advancing operational reliability, and supporting a positive customer experience reflects the direction in which our airport system is moving,” she said.

O’Keeffe emerged as the top candidate in a recruitment process, demonstrating strong alignment with the department’s values and long-term vision, Johnson said.

O’Keeffe will oversee the operations and maintenance division for both SLO County Airport and Oceano Airport, supporting efforts to strengthen reliability, enhance efficiency, and maintain high standards of service, Johnson said.

Piper is set to retire in May 2026. O’Keeffe assumes the position now to ensure a seamless transition, Johnson said.
