Amazon layoffs hit Ventura County
In the days after Amazon announced it was laying off 16,000 workers, it has been revealed that some of those job cuts are hitting the tri-county region.
Amazon, one of the largest companies in the world, announced it will be closing down various facilities throughout Southern California, including one at 742 Los Angeles Ave in Moorpark, the company said in a WARN Act filing with the state.
Known as the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification, the state’s WARN Act requires employers to file a notice when laying off more than 50 employees in California or when shutting down an entire facility.
Filed on Jan. 28, Amazon will be ceasing operations at the location by March 13 and laying off approximately all 139 workers at the facility by April 28.
In the filing, Amazon said that while the WARN Act only requires 60 days’ notice, it is providing at least 90 days’ notice to all employees, as well as to the requisite state and local government recipients.
