IN THIS ARTICLE

DuPont Displays laid off 41 employees when the Goleta-based company permanently closed Feb. 29 after almost 26 years in business.

DuPont Displays was a lighting subsidiary of DuPont USA and developed LED, LCD and organic light emitting diode technology. The company started as UC Santa Barbara startup Uniax in 1990 using technology developed by professor Alan Heeger.

DuPont bought Uniax in March 2000 for an undisclosed sum. The company maintained its offices in Goleta until it closed. DuPont announced the layoffs Dec. 30 and they took effect Feb. 29.
